USGA Golf House Pinehurst | Pinehurst, NC
USGA has announced its plans to expand its impact in golf, establishing “Golf House Pinehurst” in North Carolina. Koontz Jones Design was solicited by the USGA to provide planning and landscape architectural services for the new facility, in collaboration with Clearscapes Architecture and horticultural professors from NC State University. This project will include a new equipment-testing facility, innovation hub, museum/visitor center and USGA offices. The overall design and structures will reflect the aesthetics of the Village of Pinehurst and the Resort, along with a natural longleaf pine grove and pollinator gardens. The longleaf pine grove will be restored and re-vegetated with wire grasses native to the Sandhills.
Bay Creek Resort | Cape Charles, VA
Bay Creek is a resort community situated along the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. The history of the community and surrounding natural environment influenced the design and layout of the neighborhoods. The existing Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer golf courses, along with its conversation areas and trails, provides wonderful amenities for its residents. Koontz Jones Design was tasked with re-imagining the existing development and create a new vision for the community. This vision was developed though the Bay Creek Design Guidelines and Pattern Book, along with a revised master plan for the overall development, including enhanced recreational areas, community amenities, a beach club and rustic camp, and future residential neighborhoods.

This new ±36,000 square foot facility provides office space, research and development center, and a branded commercial store. The overall design of the site and building were intended to blend with the surrounding area, including Pinehurst #8 golf club, and embracing the character of Pinehurst. Working closely with the architect, Koontz Jones Design developed an internal building courtyard, designed to allow for small business gatherings, an individual retreat for employees and providing a visual connection with mother nature from within the building.

This secluded and rustic golf course is situated on over 1,000 acres of the natural, undulating terrain of the sandhills in North Carolina. Located just a few minutes north of the “Home of American Golf” Dormie Club offers a retreat for golf enthusiasts. Koontz Jones was directed to develop an overall master plan for this property, which encompassed the existing golf course, creating a golf experience unlike any other. The clubhouse was situated on the property to capture 360 degree views of the golf course, overlooking the 18th green. This facility was designed with underground cart parking and a standalone pro shop. As part of the master plan, fifteen cottages were strategically located throughout the golf course, capturing views of the golf course and its natural beauty. The Cottages on May is a unique residential community located just outside of downtown, providing walkable opportunities to local shops and restaurants. Community amenities include a small neighborhood clubhouse, amenity pool, open event lawn for community gatherings and movies, outdoor patio space and grill area, and a children’s play area. The Client wanted a community that was unique to Southern Pines, with alleys, gravel walks, naturalized streetscapes, while reducing the amount of impervious surface. Koontz Jones Design worked closely with Town officials creating these specialized standards that define the overall character of this community. Special care was taken to preserve several large longleaf pines throughout the property, establishing a mature aesthetic from the beginning.

Schooner Bay | Abaco, Bahamas
Schooner Bay was envisioned to provide residents with more than a place to visit – it was intended to become a way of life. Located in a remote area of the island, this development was designed to provide basic needs and resort experiences for its residents and guests. Schooner Bay offers a small commercial village center, with restaurants, retail shops and lodging opportunities located along the marina, featuring a pedestrian promenade park. Upcoming & ongoing projects:
Ballyhack | Roanoke, VA
With its views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and undulating, rugged, foothills terrain, Ballyhack is a truly unique golf facility providing memorable ‘links-style’ golf holes with elevation changes of 50 to 70 feet. When acquired by Dormie Network, Koontz Jones Design was directed to develop an overall masterplan which included 7 golf cottages, an owner’s cottage, and entrance and circulation improvements. The new entrance provides members and guest with an enhanced arrival sequence with new signage and an entry gate while hopefully being greeted by the famed family of African Boer goats that now reside alongside the entrance and cottage area. Golfers now venture to the first tee through a new underground tunnel improving safety and circulation around the clubhouse. While staying on site, members can enjoy staying in Ballyhack’s new cottages and enjoying post-round beverages by the firepit, all sited by Koontz Jones Design to have expansive vistas of the unique golf-scape with the Blue Ridge Mountains providing a perfect background.
Hidden Creek | Egg Harbor Township, NJ
