Kevin Jones
Principal
Kevin has 25+ years of experience in land planning and landscape architecture. Hailing originally from the Raleigh area, he spent more than 13 years in the Hilton Head Island, SC area working on national and international projects ranging from resort master planned communities to mixed-use developments. Following his time in South Carolina, Kevin moved to Pinehurst, NC where he developed a strong professional relationship with Bob Koontz and subsequently formed KoontzJones Design in 2013. Kevin is responsible for design development and project envisioning. He enjoys working closely with clients to develop a complete project vision and lending a detailed eye to every plan.

Bob Koontz
Principal
With over 23 years of planning experience, Bob has completed work on a wide variety of projects including commercial centers, resort developments, multi-family communities, master planned communities, corporate office campuses and public parks. While he provides project leadership from program development to construction drawings, Bob is particularly adept at project entitlements and conceptual visioning.

Jeremy Sparrow
Sr. Associate
Jeremy began his career in the summer of 2007 in Pinehurst, NC upon graduating from Ball State University. Since then, Jeremy has worked for both large private sector landscape architecture and planning firms and in the public sector, including two years as a county planner. He has gained professional experience in public community planning, large-scale master planning and detailed landscape architecture. Jeremy’s creative problem solving and project coordination have become a major asset to the firm’s clients.

Paul Saathoff
Associate
After graduating from Ball State in 2006, Paul began his career in the golf industry. After working for a year in the field of golf course construction, he went on to work for Nicklaus Design in Hong Kong, China. He decided to move back to the US and pursue a career in more traditional landscape architecture. Paul enjoys community planning and is adept in the preparation of detailed design development and construction drawings for all types of planning and landscape architecture projects.

Trevor Hansen
Design Associate
With over 14 years in the golf course development industry, Trevor has worked on projects throughout the U.S., and internationally in China, Indonesia, Korea, the Philippines, and the Middle East. He worked for many years as a Designer for Robert Trent Jones II in both their California and Asian office in the Philippines. Upon expecting the birth of his son, he returned to the U.S. in 2017 with his wife, and worked for a world-renowned golf course contractor, managing large-scale renovation projects throughout the western U.S. Trevor joined the Koontz Jones team to refocus his efforts towards the traditional landscape architecture and planning field.

Pia Bennett
Office Manager
Pia has been in the Pinehurst Area for over 20 years. She brings 30 years of experience in business administration and bookkeeping. She joined Koontz Jones Design in the Spring of 2016 as the accounting arm of our firm. As we continue to experience growth, Pia has taken on additional administrative and marketing responsibilities.

Trey Kramer
Design Associate
Trey joined KJD in the summer of 2022 as a graduate of North Dakota State University. He begins his career with Koontz Jones as a Design Associate with a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture. Trey brings a forward thinking approach to landscape architecture with an emphasis on master planned communities and detailed design. His graduate research focused on ecological recreation and ecotourism in the Miami area. It explored a unique way for the public to experience the coral reefs of Florida’s coast while aiding researchers in revitalizing them. He looks forward to further developing his skills in other areas of design, as well as collaborating with our design team. In his spare time, Trey enjoys hiking and kayaking and is a huge NASCAR fan.

Curtis Hicks
Design Associate
Curtis, born and raised in Moore County, North Carolina, began his career in the summer of 2022 with KJD after earning his degree in Architectural Technology from Sandhills Community College. With a huge interest in architecture and design, Curtis wants to continue to expand his skills in architectural and building technologies, working alongside the KJD design team. In his spare time, Curtis enjoys being outdoors, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.

Devin Macfarlane
Design Associate
Devin graduated from Utah State University in 2022, receiving both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Landscape Architecture. He began his post-graduate career as a Design Associate with Koontz Jones Design. His career in the field reflects an attitude of appreciation and stewardship over the natural landscape. His graduate research emphasized the importance of addressing the climate on various scales of planning and design. His thesis focused on GIS model analyses and community-wide design strategies for enhancing wildfire resilience throughout the Intermountain West. He has also worked outside Zion National Park in commercial resort design, land planning, and drone surveying. Throughout his work, Devin has built up a reputation for a detailed eye in design and an enthusiastic approach to harmonizing the built environment with the natural.

Alex Arrayan
Design Associate
Alex earned his Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from North Dakota State University in the spring of 2022. In August of 2022, he moved from Fargo, ND to Southern Pines, NC to start his post-graduate career at KoontzJones Design as a Design Associate. Alex’s background in golf course construction and maintenance guided his interest into the profession of Landscape Architecture and Design. His graduate thesis explored stormwater design solutions within an urban setting, residential land planning and golf course restoration methods. He is excited to apply his studies, gain experience and expand his role as part of the KoontzJones Design team. Alex’s admiration for the history of Landscape Architecture and its origins has found a perfect home near Pinehurst, where the presence of influential figures of the past is still felt.
